GOODBYE MUSIC MAN.

The World is a little quieter tonight. Levon Helm put down his sticks and has left us all for a better place.

This incredibly talented, generous and kind hearted man, former drummer, singer and legend of The Band, lost his battle with cancer April 19th. at the age of 71.

He is someone I admired having met him and The Band many years ago when they were playing gigs in Canada, they gave me the love of music I have always had.

Watching him play and hearing that voice was like going home. He played until the end but today was truly his Last Waltz.

Goodbye my friend, safe journey. They are rockin' in Heaven tonight.

KAYSAR CAME HOME TONIGHT!

As you all know my son and daughter-in-laws cat, Kaysar, went missing 4 1/2 weeks ago. They have been heartbroken. They offered a reward, he was spotted several times. On Monday they got a call that someone had seen him run across the main road near their home. I thought that was it, he was going out even farther.

Our son called me tonight on the way home from work and told me that Kaysar had come home! My daughter-in-law, Natasha, had gone out to the porch and saw a cat under the neighbours car. She called it in the voice she used with Kaysar and lo and behold it was him. After some coaxing he came out, went under a tree and then jumped into her arms just like always.

He is a little thinner and Jinx, their other cat, is not too happy with him, but he seems just the same. The 24th. is Natasha's Birthday and I do not think she could have asked for a better present.

Thanks to all of you who have sent wishes, prayers, and crossed fingers. All of that positive energy has helped bring him home.

A NEW LOOK & GARDEN GATES!

I posted yesterday that I needed to redo my garden, well last night I realized that my blog needed a little makeover too. How do you like my Spring Layout? It is cheery and makes me want to get started on my garden.

I have been looking through my gardening books and walking around the garden and realized I would like to have some kind of entrance way. I love the look of a trellis, gate or not, with Roses or Clemetis tumbling down. I do not have much luck with Roses so it would probably be Clemetis.

There is something about having an entrance to a garden that is kind of mysterious.

What lies beyond that garden gate or doorway? A whimsical Faeries garden or an old garden bursting with years of floral bliss.

I do not know what kind of entrance way I will make. Perhaps something magical and elaborate or maybe a simple garden gate but that is on my list. Now Rufus and I are on our way out to the studio, the first time I have worked there since losing Duffy & Penny, to work on a new sign for the front garden. I will show you tomorrow but here's a hint...it is dedicated to a couple of very special darlings.

MY GARDEN NEEDS A MAKEOVER!

I have had my raised garden for around 13 years now. I just love it.

It sits in the centre of our property surrounded by field and trees. It is easy to maintain, being waist level, and it looks beautiful. Unfortunately, it is falling apart. I had four large raised garden beds and last spring one of them almost fell completely apart. This spring I saw that the largest one was starting to rot and buckle.

The gardens are a compilation of flowers, herbs, and vegetables so making them out of treated lumber was not an option. With our cold winters and wet springs they have held up quite well but I know that we will have to build them all from scratch in 2013. For now I hope the remainder stay standing and the one we are going to take apart so I think it is time to give the whole garden a makeover.

Although I will always have the raised beds I do still plant around them. I love the idea of some kind of gate or trellis entrance and I love the thought of filling around the bottom with lots of greenery.

Our growing season is quite short here so I do incorporate a lot of container around my gardens.

The old garden bench I made years ago is no good and I am losing the one raised bed this year so I will have to put a bench there. I will make something whimsical, I have some great ideas.

I do love natural clay pots. These two ideas I am definately doing. The pot wreath is gorgeous. I saw it on the blog the BEE KNEES BUNGALOW. I love this blog which I found through PINTEREST. I find that PINTEREST is not only a great picture source but I really like the blogs I find connected to the pictures. You can get the directions for the stacking pots at INSTUCTABLES SHARE WHAT YOU MAKE.

Next summer we are building our little darling granddaugher a Faerie Playhouse. It may not happen this summer but I think that her Bella (that is what she calls me) needs one too.

So I will be posting the progress of my Garden Redo whenever the weather permits me to start. Also on LUCYS GARDEN today, I have a post about the heirloom vegetable garden I am going to plant on the other side of our property. That will be an ongoing post all summer.

I will leave you today with one last picture, not something I am doing in my own yard, although I would love this, but just a lovely view.

The first 6 pics are mine the rest are from PINTEREST.

RUFUS...RIGHT AT HOME!

Well, Rufus is officially a member of our family. This beautiful boy has met our son and daughter-in-law and lovely baby girl and they love him and he adores our little granddaughter.

The three cats have accepted him although I think Luca is reverting back to his baby ways for attention.

As you can see he made himself right at home on my kitchen chair. He was so comfy I did not have the heart to make him go down so there is a blanket on the chair now.

Rufus is a lovely, happy boy and even after one weekend it is like he has always been a part of our family. I am sure that Duffy and Penny would approve.

Here is his story. The girl who had him and his companion as puppies lived in an apartment and kept them in a large carrier when she was not home. The landlord made her get rid of them because he felt they were too big to stay in a tiny apartment. She posted them on Kijiji and a man took them and for some reason let the go a few days later. Thank goodness they stayed together and our SPCA found them. The female was adopted right away ( she was white in colour and Rufus being a black coated dog did not get adopted because black dogs and cats are the last to get adopted which I really do not understand) anyway, he was sent to the Rescue Pets Match in Cambridge and fostered. The Rescue put him on Kijiji, like many Rescues do, and I found him. He has now got a forever family and home. I know that many of my fellow bloggers also adopt and I highly urge you all to do so because not only do you give a wonderful home to a wonderful pet but they give you back so much more.

I want to thank all of you for following me on my journey these past few months with the loss of my two loves, Duffy and Penny to my finding our boy Rufus. There will be another furry baby down the road to join Rufus I don't know when but I do know that when I see him or her I will know that they are the one I have been waiting for.

Drop by LUCYS GARDEN today and see the results of my first attempt at making Macaroons.

HAPPY HEART, HAPPY HOME, FINDING MY BLISS.

I just wanted to take a few minutes today and post my good news. IT'S A BOY! That's right we have adopted a beautiful 22 month old furry baby. I am so happy I cannot tell you. It has been really hard this past few months after losing our beloved Duffy and Penny and we were going to wait to adopt again but it has been too sad and lonely on the farm.

I saw this gorgeous boy on a local Animal Rescue and he looks so much like our Duffy we just had to meet him. It was love at first sight. I will go into more details later but I wanted all of you to meet our Rufus.
