Over the past couple of years, pumpkin carving has become quite elaborate. Things go in trends and now it seems that the simple Jack O' Lantern has lost it's way and the fancy, artistic, over the top pumpkins have become vogue.
Give me the traditonal grinning or scary faced Jack O' Lantern any day. I love that spooky face as it glows in the night on the front porch or steps.
Living on a farm in the middle of the country we have always gotten lots of pumpkins at Halloween. We have carved at leat 6 to 8 and one Halloween we carved 13. They all vary on the same traditional face, some grinning, some grimacing and the ocassional "BOO" but they are always the old fashioned Jacks.
The new ones are pieces of art but the old time Jack O' Lantern will always smile at my house on Halloween.

As you know I volunteer with RESCUE DOGS MATCH. I have done fundraising for Brenda, adopted 3 of her rescue dogs and helped in any way I can. Brenda usually gets the Pound dogs who are on death row and there is a farmer in a small Northern Ontario town where she gets calls for the strays.
Last week she got a call about a farmer who had a dog who had a litter of 11 puppies. The fate of these puppies was grim. Brenda is going to pick them up on Thursday and save them. Guess where they will be living until Foster or Adoptive families are found......HERE!
I cannot wait. My farmhouse will be alive with the yelping of 4 little girls and 7 little boys who have just been taken from their mama. This is not the best picture but I will take a ton and post them on Friday.
Here is what I would like all of my fellow bloggers to do....please. If you have a Facebook page or a Blog, even if you are not in Ontario please repost this pick with the Rescue's phone number. We are trying to get the word spread as fast as possible so these little guys can get homes and we desperately need donations so even if people can't adopt or foster maybe they can give a little to RESCUE DOGS MATCH.
Halloween is approaching quickly. Do you have your decorations up yet? I love to deck the house out for the Witching Hour. Being on a farm on a quiet road, we don't get much foot traffic but I still decorate the whole outside of the house and make a big splash of the front porch.
With a little imagination and not always at a big cost, you can really get creative with you front door and porch.
I love the first one which is really just a lot of pumpkins, some cutouts and cute signs. You can get lots of stuff at the Dollar Store like those big spiders.
The Witch Hat porch is adorable and those hats are also at the dollar stor. Pumpins and make a simple witch, I think it looks fab. Love the spider screen door.

Silouettes are a great way to get a spooky look for you entrance. Bats have always been my favourite. How cute is that garage door, it makes me wish I had a garage. This would be a great idea for a city house you could set your candy table up in front of the garage, if the weather was nice enough.
The tree silouette is amazing. I love those big crows. Painted pumpkins are a great way to get a different look for you porch. Easy to paint and you can get really creative.
I can't tell you how much i want those hands! I have looked all over the web for them. I think they are incredible. Reminds me of the Wicked Queen in Snow White.
Great idea for this door. Lots of tulle and witch's hats, a couple of spiders and webs and "We aren't in Kansas anymort ToTo."
I have a Halloween Advent Calendar in the house but I never would have thought of making a giant one for the front porch. What a fabulous idea. Easy too. I am definately doing this.
So when you decorate don't forget to go all out on your porch or front door. I hope you show some pictures on you blogs too, I am looking forward to it.

It is only 21 days until Halloween. I think I adore Halloween almost more than Christmas. Helena Bonham Carter said that she loves Halloween because her and Tim Burton actually look normal on that day, I feel the same way.
The weeks leading up to the Witching Hour are very magical around the farm. Even though we have Thanksgiving before Halloween in Canada, I have already cast a magical spell and decorated for the big night.
From this day on I am going to do Halloween posts with everything from decorating , baking, costumes, and traditions leading up to my Halloween home and traditions.
