BEAUTIFUL BLYTHE!
As you know I just adore PINTEREST. I have discovered so many different blogs and websites through it. One thing I discovered that has become a passion are Blythe Dolls.
First made in Japan in 1972, Blythe Dolls became a favourite in North America in 2000. Now they have almost a cult following among the people who covet and collect them.
Artist "customize" the dolls in many fabulous ways. They tend to go from the sweet, adoring looking dolls.....
.....to the hauntingly beautiful almost macabre dolls that I adore. The prices range from under a hundred dollars to in the thousands. Custom artist are fully booked and very hard to find.
Now I am not really a doll person but these Blythes have captured my heart. Their faces seems to tell a story, each one different. To me they are little pieces of art meant to be treasured.
After many hours of research I found a wonderful artist I would like to create a doll for me. Melacacia makes the mysterious, dark darlings I just love. Unfortunately she is always so busy she is not taking on commissions at this time. I can wait. One day I will have a beautiful Blythe made just for me.
I have always leaned toward the macabre and this doll is one of my favourites. There is just something sweetly sinister about this little doll about to put her dollies in the guillotine that makes me love her. Strange, ha ha ha, maybe I am just a little!
I must admit I am entranced by these Blythes, as well. My nephew's wife collects them and I've been intrigued by them ever since I heard she was into them. I'm amazed at what these designers do with them - from hair to clothes.
