THE BLUE MOON AND A SKELETON KEY COLLECTOR SHARES.
Did you all go out to see the Blue Moon last night? It was so beautiful. In my area it was not quite blue but just as magnificent. I took some pictures of the moon and around the farm because the moon seemed to make everything just glow.
I thought I would show you the Skeleton Keys I have from my grandfather. I just love them. Here is the one I keep hanging on a nail too. Ignore the cobwebs please it is high up on a beam and I don't always dust there, mind you I will now.
One of my fellow bloggers Linda from MOMENTS IN AN EYE Blog sent me some pictures from her Skeleton Key collection. Linda's father started out her collection and it has grown to over 100 including a real beauty.
This gorgeous Folding Skeleton Key is in Linda's collection. She was not sure why it folded but I did a little research and found out why.
Antique folding keys date back to the late 1800's, early 1900's and were commonly used as church keys or school keys. Patents date back to mid 1869 for R&E and a later version patented by Corbin in 1887 on these jack knife style skeleton keys. This makes a lot of sense since Church and School doors were quited large and carrying a big key in your pocket would be a little combersome.
Thanks so much for sharing Linda. If any of you ever have anything related to one of my post you would like me to share just drop me a line.
Ohhh, lovely skelton key collection! I have never seen a folding one!
ReplyDeleteThe moon was beautiful last night! It's not blue *) the saying once in a "blue" moon is b/c the moon rarely appears twice in one month (well, this is what I heard on the news as to why it's called a "blue" moon)
xoxo
Oh my goodness you are so sweet. Thank you so very much for the link and thank you again for finding out about my folding key. I had no idea.
ReplyDeleteYour photos of the beautiful blue moon are awesome. You did an outstanding job. I love all your photos, great atmosphere.
Hope you are having a great week end.
I adore skeleton keys. My Grandma used to have a box of them in the back shed. I wish I had them. I'm sure they would just have been thrown out.
