MY HIPPIE HEART!

I grew up with Peace, Love and Rock & Roll. I feel so fortunate to have been a child of the 70's.

I was able to be there when Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin & Jimi Hendrix played the music that shaped a generation. I am sitting here now listening to Morrison as he sings "Don't You Love Her Madly" and "Light My Fire". When I listen to them I am a barefoot, bellbottomed Hippie who cannot wait to go to a concert or festival and have the music wash over me.

I would spend all of my money on albums, remember those? I loved albums, I still have all of mine and kept the stereo to play them on. I loved the beautiful covers and inside the pictures of the bands and the words to the songs. And posters for concerts. Those were works of art.

Then there were the Rock & Roll Bibles. Creem and Rolling Stone Magazine. My idols were a page turn away. What they were doing, where they were playing. Unfortunately Creem no longer is published and for me Rolling Stone has turned into a glossy, trendy magazine. I read them when they were actually made like a newspaper.

I was too young to go to Woodstock but I did go to many other Music Festivals. I am so glad that I had those experiences. Everyone got along. Everyone shared. It was truly a loving peaceful time.

It was also a time of war. I like to think some of the things we did had an influence on making Peace at that time.

I may be older but I am still a hippie and not just in my heart. I hold onto my John Lennon glasses, my albums and my Peaceful way of living. I am a vegan, grow my own food, mostly, and treat everyone human and animal with respect and love. I still hope for Peace in the world and equality for all. I am still barefoot most of the time and listen to the same music, which our son also listened to his whole life and still loves it. Being a Hippie is not a life choice, it's a love choice. I would not change that part of my life because it shaped my beliefs forever. After all what more could we ask for than Make Love Not War and Give Peace A Chance?

  1. I truly believe that LOVE is all there is ... we are reflections of that, but most of us forgot who we really are. I can so relate to this post. I choose love instead of hate.

    Peace and Happiness to all.
