THE END OF AUGUST SUNSET

It has been a lovely day and as I sat outside tonight I realized that summer is almost over. I know that officially, calendar wise it isn't but for me the last day of August is it. September 1st. I go into fall mode. So as Duffy and I enjoyed one of the last summer sunsets I took some pictures and wanted to share the beautiful evening with my blogging friends. I hope you are having lovely sunsets wherever your are too!

A FAMILY AFFAIR

It was a gorgeous day here yesterday. We sat out at the table in the garden all afternoon enjoying the sun and the delicious fruits and vegetables from our garden and our local farmers. The yellow and red tomatoes are from my garden ( I highly recommend yellow tomatoes, very sweet).

Of course the other members of our family are never far from us when food is involved.

BOO! SOMETHING NEW!

I just finished a bunch of Halloween Door Hangers that are going into my Etsy shop Wicked Faerie Queen.

I am quite pleased with them because I love vintage Halloween things and I used a technique I have not tried. I painted the fabric all over with orange and then painted the images and then I distressed the fabric. If they do not sell I guess every door in the house gets dressed for Halloween.

SOME CUTE IDEAS FOR HALLOWEEN

I love to go all out for Halloween and I always start with the porch. I think these ideas are great and very simple. I can't wait!

I bought the projector that makes these images for Christmas last year. It works great (this is not my house). The images are so clear and it comes with something for every occasion. The Halloween one has pumpkins and ghosts. I am so excited to use it this Halloween for the first time.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME, THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

A very quick update post before I'm off to bed.

The storm came and went and we were lucky enough not to have gotten a tornedo here. It got pretty windy and it poured down but the house stayed put, the animals are safe (although they did not like the thunder and lightening, neither did I) and we kept both feet on the ground ToTo.

WE AREN'T IN KANSAS ANYMORE!

Had a lovely day today working in my studio on Halloween things. Then my son called and told me that we have Tornado warnings in Southern Ontario tonight. My husband has panicked and locked the cats in the basement just in case. Normally I would not worry because we do not get this kind of weather here and it usually passes but yesterday I was on the computer when everything started to shake just enough to notice. The hanging lights were tinkling and I called my husband upstairs. He thought I was having a dizzy spell and I told him the lights would not move if I was having a dizzy spell. Lo and behold we had the aftershock of the earthquake from Virginia. So now I am a little worried because I cannot trust our weather anymore.

I will let you know what happened tomorrow.......I hope.

WHAT I DID TODAY AND A GIVEAWAY!

I went shopping yesterday and saw a fantastic ottoman. It was really large and had a big Union Jack on it. I just loved it but it was too big for any space I would use it for. I really like things with Union Jacks on them so I decided to redo my little antique footstool with my own version.

I handpainted some strong cotton fabric and then I distressed it with sandpaper. I think it turned out pretty well.

On another note, Tammy at A Primitive Place is having a Giveaway for her adorable handmade bear Rin. Just go to my sidebar and click the button.

I would also like to wish my friend Mina at Green Witch With Sprinkle a very, very, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

IT JUST MAKES ME SMILE!

I have these two pictures framed in my home and they are sitting where I see them everyday. I looked at them and no matter what kind of day I am having, they make me smile. I think these girls are just having such a good time and such a good gossip. It's like they all have a little secret.

There is something I must share. I LOVE HALLOWEEN. It is my favourite holiday and I mean holiday. I decorate like it is Christmas. I have a lot of nice vintage things and I love to find new vintage Halloween pieces. I am going to start to share ideas with you as I find them and some of mine. Here is one I saw today and I am going to do this with one of my urns. I think it is adorable!

WINDING DOWN

It has been and still is a lovely summer although I do feel it winding down a bit. The days are shorter, daybreak comes a little later and the vegetables are all ripening. Having four seasons is quite lovely. You can't wait for the earthy smell of spring which means balmy summer days are just around the corner.

Summer bursts forth with new life, butterflies, caterpillars and then finally all that gardening pays off and you enjoy the delicous bounty of your hard work.

And then like magic the fall faeries sprinkle their pixie dust and turn the leaves golden yellow and orange, baking begins again ( it has been too hot in the summer to turn on an oven) we enjoy the fruits of our summer labours and BOO!!!! Halloween. And of course we give thanks for all that nature has provided with a Thanksgiving Feast earlier for us in Canada.

Then the days grow even shorter, we start the fire in the woodstove and one morning we wake up to a blanket of white which brightens the dark mornings.

There was a time I would mourn the end of summer, dreading the cold and the damp of fall, but now I embrace every season for the beauty it brings. Winter does not make things die it just changes natures clothes. So as our summer winds down think of the joy that the coming seasons will bring and sit out this evening and let the crickets sing to you as a cool coming fall breeze wraps around you as if to say " I will be there soon".

MIDNIGHT

It was a mystical, calm night last night. I was sitting with the dogs on the side porch and realized except for a candle I had no lights on and the porch was fully lit. I gazed up at the midnight sky and there was the beautiful full moon, Il bella luna in all her glory.

A DELIGHT FOR THE EYES!
