ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!

Over the past few months several bloggers I follow have given up their blogs. Some were from illness, some just boredom and a few because they either did not have time or spent too much time blogging.

I also have seen that some of you have noticed that your comments have gone down and wondered if blogging was on it's way out. I do not think so, at least I hope not.

Personally, I have had my blog for almost 2 years. At first it was just to generate some interest in my Etsy Shops but as time went on and I visited many, many blogs around the world and got to know some of you well enough to call friends, my idea of blogging changed.

Before I started my own blog I honestly had no idea what blogging was. I do not really even know when it started. In the short time I have been blogging I have learned so much. Not only have I become a bit of a whiz on building my blog but I now know that there is literally a blog for any interest of any kind.

Whether it is for decor, crafts, art, farming, personal opinions, and I could go on and on, people out there have something to say.

Now, my comments have dropped dramatically and I am just putting it down to the summer months. Everyone wants to be outside. In the winter we cozy up with a cup of something and blog to our hearts content. If you think there is no one out there don't worry, someone is alway listening. I have been through some emotional times this year and always had a response from my lovely blogging family.

I found this quote today and I think it is perfect for bloggers.

I have truly become close to many, many of you. We all are there when someone needs a hug or just a little support ( you all know who you are ).

As for the amount of time I spend blogging, well it does vary. I think on an average I spend two hours a day, not necessarily all at once, posting and catching up on other blogs. Now I do try to do a daily post but that is just me, I love to get my creative opinions out there.

Do I walk away from my desk and enjoy the outdoors, absolutely! I look at blogging as kind of a slash job and social activity. It really does not take a lot of time. I will be doing somethine else and come up with an idea for a post. Sometimes I will do a little work on a post and save it until later. All of my posts are not about my life they are about everything.

That being said, I must go, I have a birthday cake and dozens of cupcakes to bake today. This post took me around 12 minutes to complete.

Before I go I really do need some help. For some reason I have been unable to leave comments on some blogs. When I go to leave a comment and it says " enter a profile" nothing happens. I find that I have no trouble with those of you who have the pop up window but the ones at the bottom of your posts just don't work. I have tried emptying my cache but it still did not work.

Do any of you have this problem? Does anyone know what I can try? I really miss leaving comments on these blogs because they are some that I read daily.

And don't forget to KEEP ON BLOGGING. It is fun, it is social, it is a way of life.

UPDATE- JUST THOUGHT I WOULD LET YOU KNOW THAT THE COMMENT PROBLEM MAY BE SOLVED. THE LOVELY ISSY AT WOMAN SEEKING CENTRE BLOG WAS NICE ENOUGH TO CHANGE HER COMMENT AREA TO A POP UP AND NOW I CAN COMMENT. IF YOU THINK YOUR COMMENTS HAVE GONE DOWN AND YOU DON'T USE THE POP UP WINDOW MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY IT. THANKS ISSY!

  1. I have read a couple of other blogs where the discussion has been: "is this the end of blogging?" Most commenters said 'NO!' Blogs do come and go, interests ebb and flow, but I think there is a good percentage of dedicated bloggers who love doing it, enjoy the people they have met, and are committed to continue whether comments are made or not. To paraphrase a common quote: "Blog like no one is reading!"
Can't help on the comment problem, but I know there are people out there that will be able to assist you!! Take care, love your blog!!

  3. Hi - I'm still here. But you're right, I'm busier in the summer. I don't read or write every day but I do eventually catch up. Today it took almost 2 hours to read everyone I follow because I haven't in almost a week. I have a ton of things to blog about to but haven't had the time just yet.

As for the comments, I haven't had any trouble leaving comments but I have heard that people have had trouble with my blog. One of my lovely blog friends talked me through some changes so hopefully mine works now. J

  4. I've had a lot less comments lately and I have been on the internet a lot less lately.
I do think it's all down to the fact it's summer!
I know what you mean with that quote. When we went through that awful time with Sisco it was so heartwarming hearing other bloggers/readers were out there sending positive thoughts (I'm looking at you Sue)

  5. I too suspect that summer has a great impact on time to read, write and/or comment in relation to blogs....

As to the demise of blogging? I don't think so - some will tire of it but there's always some 'fall-away' in any endeavor. Some will always prefer the newest way of communicating that presents itself, either because it suits them better or simply because it's new :-)

And lastly, I'm inclinded to think that the motivation/reason one blogs has great impact on continuation. If one blogs seeking comments it's difficult to sustain blogging because (as you say), comments drop off (or as in my case are 'slim to none' most times, lol).

If one blogs solely for business or for a cause it eventually achieves the goal (or not) and naturally tapers off into the cyber-ether.

BUT if one blogs as a sort of journal, to share happily, but not as the purpose - or if one blogs to offer info or be a resource - but again just 'because' and not for feedback then it's unendingly appealing to blog. And that said the comments and friendships, and all the bits that can come with blogging are a delightful bonus!!!!

And with all that rambling done, I'll close (except to add you can see why twitter doesn't work for me, roflmao WAY to brief :-)

    Interesting post/topic - as always!

    Warm regards
    Issy
PS as to trouble leaving comments
The only time I've encountered that is if I'm reading but have not yet signed into blogger when I write a comment. Then it will ask for me to 'choose a profle' .... Don't know if that's the case with the glitch you've encountered?

  6. Well I'm glad to know it's not just me! I have lost interest in doing posts because I put to much pressure on myself to make everything perfect! I find I am posting on Facebook more because I feel like I can just post it and it doesn't have to be just so. So I have decided to do the same withmy blog and just post it!xoxoxo-cindy

  7. The comments issue is one that I have been thinking about a lot recently. In fact, I was considering blogging about it, lol. I do read all of the posts of the blogs I follow, but if I try to comment on every one, plus respond to the comments I get on my own posts, I would never be able to leave the computer!
My main reason for blogging was to keep a sort of journal of what I am doing. Often either husband or I will say, "remember when we did this...or where were we when we saw that..." and so I decided to keep a record, with pics. I also do the same with the garden, as I can't remember from one year to the next what I have planted!
Personally, I find it enough that people have just stopped by, and I don't mind if they don't want to leave a comment. Even if no one stopped by, I would still blog for my own record and enjoyment.

  8. I always think this time of year gets everyone worried about their blogs but come Fall things pick back up again. I also think using the verification thing on blogger has stopped alot of comments from being made...Just keep on blogging and they will come! xo

  9. I think commenting is down because of a couple of things. Summer, surely. Social media, too. I routinely had well over 30 comments a post a year or so ago, and now it is usually anywhere from 10 to 20. I know that I don't always have time to leave a comment, even though I usually read everyone's posts.

I don't think blogging is dead or dying. It just ebbs and flows depending on the time of year.

  10. Of the 300 plus blogs I follow it's impossible to comment on all of them. There are times that I can't even begin to put words together to add anything that hasn't already been said by those who got there ahead of me. I find I usually reserve comments for those blogs who have fewer people responding. If someone already has 112 comments they don't need one more. That being said, I would hope there are others who are like me and are visiting and enjoying my posts and don't feel like they have to say something unless they really have something to say because my posts never generate that many comments. Just a note, at the time of this comment there are 9 ahead of me. Have a great day and keep on posting. I do enjoy what you have to say. Hugs

  11. Blog definitely come and go. I myself just took a month hiatus from blogging because life just got in the way.

I've had a good break to recharge and now I'm back. I actually just learned of your blog from someone sharing it on G+.

I'm not always a huge commenter, normally only if I have something specific to say.

    I definitely don't think it's the end, maybe it's just a shift.

  12. I have met too many wonderful friends blogging. Even if for some reason, I stopped blogging, which I cannot imagine, I would have to keep in touch via email or reading their blogs. You are certainly counted upon my treasured friends, Sue. Hugs sweetie.

  13. I don't think blogging is on its way out. A lot of bloggers have stopped blogging and disappeared in to other forms of media, but blogs are still going strong. I have to admit though, I have been considering stopping blogging. Not so much because of comments (though it does bother me that I have 61 followers, and yet most days only get 2 or 3 people commenting on my blog) but more than anything it's because I'm feeling like I'm spending too much time online. I have things I want to do, but instead I'm sat at my laptop reading blogs. A large part of me is feeling like it's time to throw in the towel and stop blogging. There are people I'd want to keep in touch with, but I have Facebook, e-mail and Goodreads, so keeping in touch shouldn't be an issue. I haven't decided for sure one way or another yet, but I'm seriously considering stopping blogging in the near future. Sorry, but I am.

  14. Yes, I definately see comments and visits dwindle during the Summer....I have trouble keeping up with my regular schedule simply because I have my teacher Hubby and Little Girl to compete for computer time...haha!

Blogging will always be a wonderful way to show and tell within the community. I don't see my life ever being without it :)
