HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUINN-ESTELLE! We are going out to celebrate out little, sweet grandbaby's 1st. Birthday today. I cannot believe it has been a year since we met her.

MARDI GRAS & NEW ORLEANS FILMS.

With it being Mardi Gras and the Academy Awards this week, I thought it would be nice to have a look at some of the lovely mansions and old homes of New Orleans. I really enjoy watching films that have been made there, seeing the wonderful old streets and homes.

Ann Rice's Interview With A Vampire takes place in the gorgeous, historic area of New Orleans. Very Gothic.

Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil although not one of my favourite films is full of New Orleans atmosphere.

The last one that comes to mind is The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button which takes you through the French Quarter and some lovely interiors.

I also want to thank so many of you for stopping by my new Blog LUCYS GARDEN this week. I have been having fun posting about some gardening and putting on some recipes. There is a great Jambalaya on today.

OSCAR GOWNS & EDITH HEAD

The Academy Awards are this weekend & even though I do not always care about the pictures I do watch the Awards for the gowns. I have watched since I was a little girl in awe of the floating beauty of the red carpet dresses. I must say that the past years have been a disappointment so I want to have a look back at Oscar gowns when they had class.

Audrey Hepburn wore this lovely simple gown by Givenchy when she accepted her Oscar for Roman Holiday in 1953.

Loretta Young won for The Farmer's Daughter 1947 in this Adrian gown.

The alway elegant Grace Kelly took home the Oscar for Country Girl in 1954 wearing this jewel of a gown designed by the wonderful Edith Head.

Elizabeth Taylor was a vision of spring in this beautiful Dior gown she wore when she won the Oscar in 1960 for Butterfield 8.

What a beautiful couple! Joanne Woodward did not think she would win the Oscar in 1957 for Three Faces of Eve so you made this gown herself. It looked lovely.

The incomparable designer Edith Head made several Oscar dresses for her stars. She was nominated for 35 Academy Awards for her costume design and won 8. Her designs are timeless.

I am a huge fan of hers. I took design in school and she was my inspiration. The thing about Edith Heads work is you know it is hers. There is just a look about her costume designs that you know it must be an Edith Head.

This dress for Bette Davis in All About Eve is just breathtaking. I could see this as a red carpet dress today.

This prom dress designed for Elizabeth Taylor in A Place In The Sun was one of the most copied designs of all time. In 1951 it was the prom dress to wear.

This beautiful gown for Grace Kelly in To Catch A Thief is similiar to the one Edith designed for her Oscar win.

I just love this dress from Rear Window. Grace Kelly looked so elegant and regal in this dress.

I do look forward to the Red Carpet again this year but I think, like other years, I will be disappointed. I do not know if it is the designers or the stars are not of the same quality but they just don't do it the way they used to.

MY NEW BLOG!

I decided to start a new blog today. I love my WICKED FAERIE QUEEN and it is my main blog but I wanted to have a place to talk about my love of gardening and food so I started LUCYS GARDEN, which I named after my Etsy Shop which is named after my beloved cat Lucy. Pop over when you get time and tell me what you think.

GOTHIC INSPIRATION.

I have been in love with everything Gothic since I was a teenager. Now this is long before it became such a phenomena like it is now. I was fascinated with Vampires and creatures of the night. I soaked up the underground culture in as many books as I could find and, like Tim Burton, I devoured the old Hammer films. Christopher Lee is the only film Dracula as far as I am concerned.

I wore a long black cape, similiar to this one, and I just loved it.

I have redisovered my love of goth. With so many amazing images on PINTEREST I have found myself drawing inspiration for my work.

These images inspired some of my Wedding Pillows. I have just finished this one and put it in my Etsy Shop, WICKED FAERIE QUEEN today.

I am making a few more of these, some a little more elaborate. I think I will be making some lace & pearl pillows after that. I found this gorgeous picture today and I think I can make some really amazing pillows from this.

VINTAGE WEDDING PILLOWS IN MY ETSY SHOP.

It is the time of year when brides-to-be are planning or putting the finishing touches on their weddings. This is when I start to put the wedding items I make into my etsy shop WICKED FAERIE QUEEN.

This season, when I was designing my ring bearer pillows, I was inspired by Vintage wedding gowns.

Such as these three from the website ANTIQUE & VINTAGE DRESS GALLERY. If you know someone who is planning a wedding and they want a gorgeous, vintage dress for a fraction of the price they should visit this website. The gowns are just breathtaking!

These are the two pillows I have just finished. I used some vintage lace, lovely old buttons and a shear ribbon.
I am very happy with the way they turned out. I wrapped each one with a stretchy strip of lace which makes it easy for little hands to slip into and not drop the rings on the day.

I just found this incredible gown, I think I see another pillow in the making!

FABULOUS, DELICIOUS PINK..........PART 2

I believe that I could do a whole week of posts on PINK. There are just so many images I adore and so many shades. I will, however, for now, just keep it to two.

I see no need for those pesty cell phones if we had one of these beauties on every corner.

When I saw this image, it made me want to go on a quest for the perfect pink telephone. I would put on my pink bunny slippers and curl up with my phone for a long chat.

As little girls we played in PINK kitchens. Fortunately some of us never grew out of our love of a PINK kitchen.

Even when it is worn out on a lovely old building, shutter or door, PINK looks luscious!

Oh, be still my heart! Could you imagine anything more romantic than this vision in PINK!

Well, perhaps this! I would have to add the PINK lanterns for an evening of romance.

Oh yes, a party in PINK.

With of course, PINK candy floss & PINK lemonade.

Pink Coca Cola cans! Where are these and why have I not heard of them!

And a PINK party dress.........I'll keep it simple.

And balloons, lots & lots of PINK balloons.

I do insist they are brought on a PINK bicycle though.

And I will have lots of PINK presents for my guests.

Oh, the joy of this delightful PINK playhouse for grown ups.

I can just imagine sitting in there on these scrumptious PINK french chairs overlooking the water while we dined on macaroons and tea, PINK of course.

I shall end my PINK POST with a Pink Princess. Marilyn Monroe said "Diamonds are a girls best friend". I think she meant PINK Diamonds!
